Abstract
Since the Eighties Human Resource Development is going to be a full track of study at most universities in the Netherlands with major in education or pedagogy. In this article a short overview is given of this development within the international scene. Besides this a historical flashback is given on (technical) training, a sketch of the research of ten years corporate training and an analysis of factors related to the success of performance. This article serves as an introduction to a volume on corporate training in which a review of on the job training research, two articles about research on transfer of training, and a study on HRD roles, are the central topics.
