Legal considerations of UAV flights

Abstract

Increasing operational capabilities of UAVs as well as improved hard- and software components are raising severe concerns about public safety, privacy and data protection. Therefore, more and more national and international authorities introduced legal provisions that regulate the use of UAVs. Such regulations significantly impact how, where, when and by whom UAV-based data can be captured. This chapter is based on Stöcker et al., 2017 and Stöcker, 2021 and provides an overview of past and present developments as well as important aspects
of current regulatory frameworks.
