Abstract

The performance of sorption-based cryocoolers can, in various cases, benefit from attaining a low thermal gradient in the sorbent. The design and fabrication of a sorption compressor with a low thermal gradient design is presented here. The possibility of modelling this compressor with a uniform temperature in the adsorbent is validated with both thermal modelling and experiments and additional pressure validation. Both validation experiments show that in the operating region of the compressor the uniform temperature assumption in the adsorbent is justified. Additionally, an outlook to the operation of this compressor operating with single gases and mixtures is given.
