Abstract
Meshless methods are interesting for simulating large-deformation forming processes. Mesh related problems, as occuring with finite elements are expected to be avoided. In this paper, two meshless methods (SPH and EFG) are compared to FEM in an extrusion problem. Numerical artifacts seem present in SPH and EFG. Therefore a modified (stabilized) meshless method is investigated. The method shows promising results for forming. Data concerning material history can be stored at the nodes instead of at separate integration points. Volumetric locking is absent.
