Abstract

A recent trend in microfabrication technology involves the development of advanced forms of drug delivery devices. These microfabricated devices can be designed to specific dimensions providing site specific and controlled delivery of therapeutics in addition to ease of penetration across barriers. This chapter provides an overview of the microfabrication technology and its applications in drug delivery. It emphasizes the use of microfabrication technology in developing microneedles and provides detailed microneedle characterization techniques for their application in transdermal drug delivery.
