Abstract

This is a short introduction to the topics of this workshop. We discuss different approaches to the parsing problem, the role of syntax as a knowledge source, parallel approaches to natural language processing, competence vs. performance in parsing, non-traditional approaches to the parsing prohkm (neural nctv,mrks, genetic algorithms and simulated annealing) and approaches to robust analysis and interpretation.
