Abstract

The influence of non-rubber constituents in NR, particularly proteins on silica reinforced compounds in the presence and absence of coupling agent, is studied. The compound was based on a truck tire tread compound recipe consisting of 100 phr of NR, 55 phr of silica Ultrasil 7005 and 5 phr of bis (triethoxysilylpropyl) tetrasulphide or TESPT silane coupling agent. The compounds were mixed in two stages: In the first stage mixing, all ingredients except the curatives were mixed in a Brabender Plasticorder 350S internal mixer with 60 rpm rotor speed and 0.7 fill factor. Mooney viscosity was measured at 100°C with a Mooney viscometer 2000E using a large rotor for compounds and a small roter for masterbatches.
