Numerical modelling of particle-laden buoyant jets

CFD calculations of the dispersion of heavy particles from horizontally-discharged buoyant jets are described. This has a particular relevance to marine outfalls.
Particle dispersion is simulated by both Eulerian (advection-diffusion) and Lagrangian (random-walk) approaches. Comparison is made with a series of 2D short-duration releases in a finite tank and 3D continuous releases with and without ambient currents.
