Abstract

he present work has as its main objective to report the actions developed and the experiences, from the perspective of two students of the course of Environmental Engineering, in the project of extension “Participatory monitoring of simplified systems of water supply in a quilombola community of Minas Gerais”. The project was carried out from the 16 to 27 of July, 2016, in the city of São Francisco, northern Minas Gerais, and involved the activities of gathering information on local sanitation conditions and the construction of a residential water treatment facility. The methodology consists on the description of the events before, during, and after the trip. In short, in contact with a distinct Brazilian reality, the project contributed to the humanistic training of students and was extremely important for the inclusion of extension subjects in the curriculum of the Undergraduate Course in Environmental Engineering at UFMG.
