Abstract
In this paper both oblique evaporated and sputtered magnetic thin films will be discussed. It will be shown that separation of a columnar morphology based on the shadowing effect can be used to obtain desirable properties for magnetic recording. In principle, both evaporation as well as sputtering can be used to exploit the effect of shadowing. In this paper samples prepared with both deposition methods as well as some analysis aspects will be discussed.
