Abstract

In the past ten years, thousands of Dutch citizens have been asked for their opinions about the police. So far the purport of their answers has remained uncertain, however, because the individuals involved were not asked for their underlying motivations. The objective of this dissertation is to provide a better understanding of citizens' opinions about the police by identifying the occurrences and circumstances on which the judgements in question are based.
