    Large-core, horizontally tapered Al2O3:Nd3+ channel-waveguide amplifiers are combined with polymer waveguides for compensating signal losses at 880 nm in optical backplanes. 0.21-dB net gain is demonstrated when coupling an Al2O3:Nd3+ waveguide between two polymer waveguides.
