Abstract

Photonic ciystals offer exciting physical research opportunities. We present the first evidence that photonic crystals do control emission rates of embedded light sources. We analyze the role of intrinsic disorder in 2D and 3D crystals on light propagation and conclude that applications, in particular integrated circuits, have a dim future.
