Abstract

This article reviews studies on memory performa nce in young and older adults. Many studies have been reported in cognitive psychological literature on perception, memory and problem solving. These studies express clear differences between young and older adults. We performed a meta-analys is in which studies on free recall, cued recall and seria l recall a recompared and effect sizes are achieved. Other variables taken into study were: immediate or delayed recall, intentional or incidental learning, and learning materials. Young adults showed superior memory performance, except for learning texts. In the final section relevance of the outcome of this study and of application of meta-analysis are discussed.
