Abstract

In the near-shore zone, energetic surface waves gen erate sheet-flow sand transport. The progressive na ture of the waves also induces an onshore directed current near the b ed. This paper investigates numerically the influen ce of this current and other progressive wave effects on wave boundary layer flow and sheet-flow sand transport. The resu lting insights and parameterizations facilitate further improvemen t of sand transport formulas. This is relevant, bec ause transport formulas are mainly based on oscillatory flow exper iments which do not include progressive wave effects.
