Abstract

This article is one of the research products of the project entitled "Enhancing Adolescent Maya Girls' Education through Peer Support" which was developed from 2018 to 2020 in Mayan communities in the state of Yucatan. This research analyzed the conditions that favor adolescent girls who had dropped out of school to obtain their high school certificate so that they can subsequently reintegrate into the national education system.
To conduct this research, it was used information gathered during fieldwork using a variety of mixed research methods that included a quantitative methodology based on data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) and other institutions dedicated to the promotion of women's educational rights in Mexico and a qualitative methodology applied through open interviews, informal conversations, direct observation, ethnography and documentary review. This is an interdisciplinary work and with the participation of the University of Twente in the Netherlands, incorporating the Contextual Interaction Theory (Bressers, 2004), to understand the
motivations that direct the actions of adolescent girls, the knowledge that represents what is believed to be true and the resources that provide the actors with the capacity to act.
