Abstract

Surface modifications are gaining rising interest in the (medical) industry as the modifications results in surface property changes like wettability, reflectivity friction and bacterial as well as cell adhesion. LIPSS (laser-induced periodic surface structures) is one way to change surface properties but the application remains challenging, especially on polymers. Here, we present our efforts in showing LIPSS formation after single-location experiments and after line and area processing without the formation of ablation craters showing the processing window. The processing window for area-wide LIPSS formation is extremely small with very long processing times in the hour regime for 1mm² as it has been necessary to go into the regime of over 100,000 effective pulses.
