    Abstract

We consider the problem of stabilizing a class of sandwich systems, consisting of two linear subsystems connected in cascade by a saturated scalar signal, with partial-state measurement available from the second subsystem only. We present conditions for semiglobal stabilization and demonstrate their sufficiency by explicit construction of a stabilizing con- troller. This controller is a mathematical construction that is not intended for practical implementation in its current form. Central to the stabilization strategy is a detection scheme that determines whether the saturation is active or inactive within intervals of a freely chosen length.
