Abstract
Choosing the best location for the implementation of a landfill is often a difficult decision to take due to the variety
of factors involved. In this work, the potential areas for the implementation of a landfill at the city of Jundiaí (SP) were
selected by using the Multicriteria Analysis methodology and the software ArcGIS. The various technical conditions
chosen were weighted according to the significance for the choice of the best location. As a result, a map of areas graduated in a scale of simultaneous attendance to all the criteria was obtained. Taking into consideration the exclusion
factors, a second map with the inappropriate areas for the deployment of the landfill was generated. The minimum
area needed for the implantation was calculated considering longevity, landfill characteristics and the production of
solid waste. Combining these results, it was possible to select the best potential areas for the construction of the landfill.
