Abstract

Companies in all fields are facing a new worldwide revolution: integrating Internet-based information and communication technology (ICT) into their complete value chains. This development is often referred to as the industrial Internet of things (IIoT), smart industry (SI), or Industry 4.0. Beyond leading to more efficient and adaptive production and supply-chain processes, it also will lead to a complete new generation of always-connected products. The articles in this issue cover important issues in Internet-related innovations for smart industry.
