Abstract

In a case study, analyses of Fry plots of geothermal occurrences, volcanic
centers, hot springs, shallow-earthquake epicenters indicate common directional patterns reflecting similar geological controls on spatial distributions of these geological features. Probability density distribution analyses indicate varying degrees of spatial associations between known geothermal occurrences and individual sets of geological features. The Fry plot analyses and probability density distribution analyses aided definition of conceptual model of geothermal prospectivity, which was made basis for GIS-based predictive mapping of geothermal prospective areas by multi-class index overlay technique. Predicted prospective areas coincide mostly with prospective areas demarcated 30 years ago; however, there are also predictive prospective areas outside the previously demarcated prospective areas or not
containing a known geothermal occurrence.
