Abstract
In this paper, heat-treated CoCr ribbons with 20 and 27 at% Cr have been studied with the aim of understanding the segregation phenomenon which first emerged from sputtered CoCr films for perpendicular recording. Higher magnetization of a ribbon heated at 530 to 730C has found in comparison with the homogeneous CoCr compositon. It favours the opinion that the segregation in a CoCr system is of energy equilibrium at certain temperatures. Based on our result, a re-interpretation of the CoCr phase diagram and a discussion on its relation to sputtered films with segregation are presented.
