Abstract

Silica-silane is a commonly used filler system in elastomer technology. However, there are drawbacks to this technology: processing of the silica-filled compounds is elaborative, and this filler system does not work properly for all applications. In order to overcome the drawbacks of the silica-silane system, alternative surface pre-treatment techniques were investigated. The characteristics of the modified silica types as such as well as in their application will be discussed.
