Abstract

This work focuses on the so-called split batteries and proposes the T-type cascaded H-bridge circuit, as a suitable candidate for this application. Furthermore, state-of-charge (SoC) balancing between the battery modules is done by a hierarchical algorithm without requiring any ancillary balancing hardware. To minimize the number of switches in the conduction path and to increase efficiency, the conventional hierarchical algorithm is modified for the T-type based cascaded H-bridge. Finally, a simulation in MATLAB Simulink is performed to verify the feasibility of the proposed AC battery and both conventional and modified balancing algorithms.
