Abstract

TEMPEST is a special topic within the electromagnetic environmental effects domain and refers to spying on information systems through leaking electromagnetic fields. The major difference with electromagnetic interference is that for TEMPEST we are also interested in the information contained in the leaked electromagnet fields. Modern and low-cost software defined radios and huge amount of processing power is readily available, and this has been used to develop a TEMPEST demonstrator. The development and use of such a SDR-based TEMPEST demonstrator for HDMI and DVI-D has been described in this paper.
