    Abstract

Air bending is a process that potentially offers a high flexibility as regards different bend angles and sheets to be processed. However, the material behaviour has a large influence on the bend angle under loading conditions and after spring-back. The paper describes a plane-strain bending model. The basis of this model is the moment-curvature relationship of the sheet material. A method for the prediction of the bend radius is presented. The model has been used to simulate the bending process for materials with different work hardening behaviour. The simulation results emphasize the necessity to determine the material characteristics of a sheet adequately.
