Abstract
Multiple materials have been used in a rudimentary way for a number of different Rapid Prototyping (RP) systems since the technology was first invented. This paper covers the state of the art in commercial systems and research into multiple materials for RP. It discusses why multiple materials are used and how such use may assist in the goal to further RP as a mainstream manufacturing technology.
