Toward a fuller picture of vulnerability in trust relationships

In this entry, we argue that trust decisions may render trustors vulnerable in more ways than they foresee when they decide to trust. Trust decisions do not only lead to vulnerability that is both willed—accepted by virtue of a trust decision—and relational—grounded in what the trustee does or does not do—but also to vulnerabilities that are unwilled and/or non-relational. We therefore include a discussion of collateral and surplus vulnerability which, we argue, should be considered for a fuller picture of vulnerability in trust relationships.
