Abstract
The book showcases work that could be seen as a sort of résistance (the resistance), critically shaping robotic technology otherwise, steering research toward doing the “right thing” as opposed to doing “things right.” In the final chapter of the book, we reflect on how the ten chapters of this book are an inspiring testimony of how the field is growing, maturing, changing, and addressing its limitations. Fully embracing the pledge of our introductory chapter to loosen disciplinary boundaries, we reflect on what we can learn from the book and what the future of human-robot interaction (HRI) may be. In line with designerly ways of knowing, we introduce ontological, epistemological, and political reframes for the HRI field to inspire readers and scholars to step beyond disciplinary divides and develop robots we want to relate to in awe and solidarity.
