Abstract

A generalized formulation is presented of the so-called transient network model for the rheological behaviour of polymeric liquids. This formulation is shown to be more flexible and applicable to other types of systems as well. Furthermore this formulation is shown to be closely related to the theory of Doi and Edwards.
