Abstract

We are interested in finding templates for direct laser writing of deterministic uncorrelated multiple scattering media. To this end, we want to fill space in a homogeneous way with random lines. It turns out that this is a remarkably difficult problem, which is related to a paradox found by J. Bertrand in 1889. Following insights from Jaynes [1], we solve this problem in 2D and find an analytic expression for the distribution of line lengths. We discuss progress towards solving the 3D case.
