Abstract

Recent epidemics have shown how global transformations facilitate the rapid and far-reaching spread of emerging infectious agents. The prediction of future epidemics, where and when they will start and how they will develop, is impossible. Web-based communication is valuable in managing outbreaks and contributing to response interventions. It offers opportunities of integrating a variety of spatial data to examine dynamics of disease patterns and dynamically changing risks over space and time. Thus, web-based communication adds value to public health risk communication.
