    Abstract

    This chapter addresses the topic of wireless Internet, the extension of the wireline Internet architecture to the wireless domain. As such the chapter introduces the reader to the dominant characteristics of the Internet, from its structure to the protocols that control the forwarding of data and the its delivery. The chapter then describes the current status of wireless networking, focusing on current and future cellular technologies, wireless LANs mobile IP, and the newly emerging personal area networking (PAN) systems.
